This Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi by Toa Sekiguchi is beautiful! This doll is a rendition of princess Kaguya. She is the main character in the oldest Japanese folktale 'The tale of the bamboo cutter'. This princess who originally came from the moon was found by a bamboo cutter inside a glowing bamboo shoot.

Toa is part of a well known kokeshi artisan family. He is the son of the famous Sansaku Sekiguchi who has his own kokeshi museum in Gunma. Toa was born in Shibukawa City and still lives and works there with his family. He has won numerous awards for his kokeshi including the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award.
