This Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi by Toa Sekiguchi is a spectacular representation of Taishō. He was the emperor who reigned from 1912 to 1926 during a period in which Japan continued the modernization of its economy.
Toa is part of a well-known kokeshi artisan family. He is the son of the famous Sansaku Sekiguchi who has his own kokeshi museum in Gunma. Toa was born in Shibukawa City and still lives and works there with his family. He has won numerous awards for his kokeshi including the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award.
