This kokeshi is made by Sansaku Sekiguchi and represents a Samurai warrior. Great effort is made to get many of the details right. What a special kokeshi.
Sansaku Sekiguchi was born in 1925 and he is the only certified Master of Creative Kokeshi by the Japanese Government. He even has his own museum in Gunma. He won numerous awards including three times the prestigious Prime Minister Award!!! His kokeshi are arguably amongst the most popular, and sought by collectors all over the world making them highly expensive. Sekiguchi-San passed away in 2018. His sons, Toa, Toshio and his daughter Izumi now also make kokeshi quite successfully winning many prices at contests.
