Takahashi Hajime was originally a fine artist/painter. He is known for his colourful flower designs and the typical kokeshi faces that are made out of thin brush strokes. This kokeshi is decorated with a rooster. The rooster (tori in Japanese) is one of the 12 zodiac animals of the Asian lunar calendar.
