This is a special gumma kokeshi by Toa Sekiguchi. She has a well designed kimono with a colorful obi. Both obi and kimono have engraved details. This kokeshi is dated 1987.
Toa is part of a well known kokeshi artisan family. He is the son of the famous Sansaku Sekiguchi who has his own kokeshi museum in Gunma. Toa was born in Shibukawa City and still lives and works there with his family. He has won numerous awards for his kokeshi including the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award.
