This oval shaped kokeshi looks so cute and innocent! Her kimono is decorated with red and white plum blossoms. The Japanese plum (ume) is a popular flower in Japan and plays an important role in their culture. It is one of the first blossoms to appear each year and they prelude the start of spring. She is made by Toshio Sekiguchi, son of the famous Sansaku Sekiguchi. He was born in the Gunma Prefecture in 1947 and has won multiple awards since 1962.
