This Exclusive kokeshi by Issetsu Kuribayashi has a beautiful yet strong appearance. As in most of Kuribayashi's dolls the natural wood has a predominant role. The deep carved lines on her head beautifully define the hair.
Kuribayashi was born in Yamagata prefecture in 1924. In the 1950s he started producing Creative Kokeshi. Kuribayashi won numerous awards including the prestigious Prime Minister Award. His kokeshi are arguably amongst the most popular, and sought by collectors all over the world making them highly expensive. Kuribayashi -San passed away in 2011.
