This is a Rare Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi by Kenichi Murakami. She is simple and chunky. The dark wood adds to the vintage character of this doll. She has a very minimalistic design. Just some slim eyes, a small mouth and engraved hair. She is still in good condition.
Murakami was born in 1929 and initially studied oil painting in the 1940s. Around the mid 40s, he began to study and create Shingata kokeshi. His kokeshi are all about showing the wood and its texture with very little paint. Most even have wood-burned designs.
