This is a rare kokeshi by the famous award winning Sanpei Yamanaka. The kokeshi has a very cute but also powerful look. She is quite a chunky doll and we love the deep red color.
Yamanaka-San was born in Yamagata and made creative kokeshi throughout his entire career. His kokeshi are really sought by collectors all over the world. He won the prestigious 'Prime Minister Award' in 1979.
