This is a lovely design by Sanpei Yamanaka. The bands are rainbow-like deep orange, Yellow and blue. They contrast beautifully with the darker wood of the kokeshi.
Yamanaka-San was born in Yamagata and made creative kokeshi throughout his entire career. His kokeshi are really sought by collectors all over the world. He won the prestigious 'Prime Minister Award' in 1979.
