This is a rare kokeshi by the famous award winning Sanpei Yamanaka. The kokeshi has such a lovely deep colors. She also has a high gloss finish which is rare for Sanpei's work.
Yamanaka-San was born in Yamagata and made creative kokeshi throughout his entire career. His kokeshi are really sought by collectors all over the world. He won the prestigious 'Prime Minister Award' in 1979.
