This is a lovely kokeshi by Kato Tatsuo. Her kimono is decorated with a golden moon with carved leaves and flowers. The colorful layers of the kimono are a nice additional detail to the doll. Tatsuo's work is always outstanding.
Kato Tatsuo started making kokeshi in the 1960s and studied under master Sansaku Sekiguchi. He is very popular and a major award winning artisan.
