This is a spectacular kokeshi by Kato Tatsuo. She is dated 1987. She has a yellow-golden kimono decorated with a floral design. Special about this kokeshi is that the natural wood grain is part of the kimono design. Very clever and a spectacular result! The hair is made with great eye for detail. As a matter of fact, Tatsuo's work is always outstanding. This is museum quality and a large version!
Kato Tatsuo started making kokeshi in the 1960s and studied under master Sansaku Sekiguchi. He is very popular and a major award winning artisan.
