This is a rare kokeshi by Yuji Watanabe. She is decorated with ginkgo leaves that are in autumn falling from the trees. They are painted in relief. What a great kokeshi and color tone.
Yuji is part of a well-known kokeshi artisan family. He is the son of the famous Masao Watanabe and the father of Kunihiko Watanabe. His kokeshi are arguably amongst the most popular and sought by collectors all over the world making them highly expensive.
