This is a spectacular kokeshi by Yuji Watanabe. The face is so recognizable and his work is always outstanding. Her black hair is wonderfully carved. The doll has a very powerful appearance. Her kimono is mainly decorated with flowers and butterflies. Her obi is also a nice feature. This doll is museum quality. She is a perfect eye-catcher!
Yuji is part of a well known kokeshi artisan family. He is the son of the famous Masao Watanabe and the father of Kunihiko Watanabe. His kokeshi are arguably amongst the most popular and sought by collectors all over the world making them highly expensive.
