This is a lovely kokeshi pair by the renown artisan Chiyomatsu Kanou. These kokeshi are decorated with engraved and painted blossoms.
Kano Chiyomatsu was born in 1935 and started making kokeshi in 1953. He won the prestigious Prime Minister award twice among many more awards making him one of the most decorated and prized kokeshi master in Japan. His date of passing us unknown.
