This is a lovely kokeshi pair by the renown artisan Chiyomatsu Kanou. These kokeshi have a minimalist design. With a few lines the artisan has shaped her kimono beautifully and flowers were added through engraving techniques. This set comes with her original box and is still in good condition.
Kano Chiyomatsu was born in 1935 and started making kokeshi in 1953. He won the prestigious Prime Minister award twice among many more awards making him one of the most decorated and prized kokeshi master in Japan. His date of passing us unknown.
