This is a beautiful pair of Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi by Sanpei Yamanaka. They are still in good condition and can be seen as a couple. They have a simple kimono design with some chatter work in the middle giving it a beautiful textured obi (traditional belt).
Yamanaka-San was born in Yamagata and made creative kokeshi troughout his entire career. His kokeshi are really sought by collectors all over the world. He won the prestigious 'Prime Minister Award' in 1979.
