This is a rare set of Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi by Kenichi Murakami. They represent the four seasons of the year. The dark wood adds to the vintage character of these dolls. These dolls come with their original box.
Murakami was born in 1929 and initially studied oil painting in the 1940s. Around the mid 40s, he began to study and create Shingata kokeshi. His kokeshi are all about showing the wood and its texture with very little paint. Most even have wood-burned designs.
