This is a special kokeshi by Sansaku Sekiguchi. You might not immediately recognize her as work by Sansaku, but she is elegant yet simple. She wears a lovely kimono decorated with Japanese patterns.
Sansaku Sekiguchi was born in 1925 an he is the only certified Master of Creative Kokeshi by the Japanese Government. He even has his own museum in Gunma. He won numerous awards including three times the prestigious Prime Minister Award!!! His kokeshi are arguably among the most popular, and sought by collectors all over the world making them highly expensive. Sekiguchi-San passed away in 2018. His sons, Toa, Toshio and his daughter Izumi now also make kokeshi quite successfully winning many prices at contests.
