This is a lovely Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi by Kenichi Murakami. His work is quite often in dark wood. This kokeshi is different. She has a lovely red kimono with flower.
Murakami was born in 1929 and initially studied oil painting in the 1940s. Around the mid 40s, he began to study and create Shingata kokeshi. His kokeshi are all about showing the wood and its texture with very little paint. Most even have wood-burned designs.
