These exclusive Vintage Kokeshi are by the Famous Shozan Shido. The dolls are a minimalist work and use the natural wood to their full potential. Both kokeshi are wearing a mino. This is a type of clothing worn by the farmers and rural people in the mountains to protect them from rain and snow. This representation is a classic design by Shozan, but this version is rare.

Short Bio of Shido Shozan (1932 - 1995)
Shido Shozan was born in Oita prefecture in 1932. Originally, he was a traditional Yamagata artisan and attended the Chuo University in Tokyo. He later moved to Yonezawa which greatly influenced some of his designs to depict Yonezawa motifs. His later work also often uses the natural wood grain to bring out delicate and beautiful designs. Shido won numerous awards including the prestigious Prime Minister Award. His kokeshi are arguably amongst the most popular, and sought by collectors all over the world making them highly expensive. Shido-San passed away in 1995.
