This is a spectacular Vintage kokeshi that was handmade by the renown artist Chiyomatsu Kano. She has a lovely kimono and the typical facial expression. We love her topknot. These kokeshi are very rare finds especially this one as she comes with her original box and she is still in very good condition.
Kano Chiyomatsu was born in 1935 and started making kokeshi in 1953. He won the prestigious Prime Minister award twice among many more awards making him one of the most decorated and prized kokeshi master in Japan. His date of passing us unknown.
