This is a spectacular Kokeshi and a rare find. She was handmade by the renown artisan Chiyomatsu Kanou. She wears a kimono with a rich flower pattern and a beautiful ribbon.
Kano Chiyomatsu was born in 1935 and started making kokeshi in 1953. He won the prestigious Prime Minister award twice among many more awards making him one of the most decorated and prized kokeshi master in Japan. His date of passing us unknown.
