This is a spectacular Kokeshi and a rare find by the renown master Kano Chiyomatsu (1935-). She is titled Nogiku ( 野菊) which means Wild Chrysanthemum. Her kimono has a rich flower pattern and a beautiful ribbon. She has a wonderful facial expression. The flushed cheeks are a typical feature of Kano-san's work.
Kano-san was born in 1935 (year of passing is unknown). Kano Chiyomatsu began making kokeshi dolls in the 1950s. He has won the prestigious prime minister award twice. Kano-san’s dolls are highly prized and seldom seen. She is still in very good condition for vintage.
