This is a lovely Kokeshi and a rare find by the renown artist Chiyomatsu Kanou. The wood is only sparingly decorated with dark blue flowers. The kokeshi is titled Spring Breeze (Hanukaze). This kokeshi is in very good condition for being vintage.
Kano Chiyomatsu was born in 1935 and started making kokeshi in 1953. He won the prestigious Prime Minister award twice among many more awards making him one of the most decorated and prized kokeshi master in Japan. His date of passing us unknown.
