These are two rare kokeshi by the famous award winning Sanpei Yamanaka. They can be seen as a mother and child couple.
Yamanaka-San was born in Yamagata and made creative kokeshi throughout his entire career. His kokeshi are really sought by collectors all over the world. He won the prestigious 'Prime Minister Award' in 1979.
