This Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi by Toa Sekiguchi is spectacular! The design is chuncky and the kimono is just amazing. Her kimono is decorated with red flowers and warm colors. Engraving techniques are also used for the flowers to give the kimono some depth. She is still in good condition.
Toa is part of a well known kokeshi artisan family. He is the son of the famous Sansaku Sekiguchi who has his own kokeshi museum in Gunma. Toa was born in Shibukawa City and still lives and works there with his family. He has won numerous awards for his kokeshi including the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award.
