This is a spectacular kokeshi by the famous artisan Inosuke Kobayashi. Inosuke won the prestigious Prime Minister's Award with this design in 1979. This kokeshi is titled: 'Toi Sora' in Japanese which means 'Distant Sky'. This kokeshi is simple yet sophisticated. She wears an elaborate kimono with intricate details using both painting and engraving techniques. What a stunning piece!
Inosuke Kobayashi is a Prime Minister Award Winning Kokeshi Artisan and his kokeshi are collected all over the world. Kobayashi was born in 1931 and died early in life. His date of passing is unknown.
