This is an elegant Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi by Kenichi Murakami. It is fascinating to see how few lines Kenichi needs to make a kokeshi special. This kokeshi comes with her original box.
Murakami was born in 1929 and initially studied oil painting in the 1940s. Around the mid 40s, he began to study and create Shingata kokeshi. His kokeshi are all about showing the wood and its texture with very little paint. Most even have wood-burned designs.
