This is an exclusive set of nine kokeshi by Sanpei Yamanaka. Five of them have bands in a colorful rainbow-like pattern. This is a common feature of Sanpei's work. Four do not have these patterns.
Yamanaka-San was born in Yamagata and made creative kokeshi throughout his entire career. His kokeshi are really sought by collectors all over the world. He won the prestigious 'Prime Minister Award' in 1979.
