This is a spectacular Vintage kokeshi that was handmade by the renown artist Chiyomatsu Kano. She has a lovely kimono and the typical facial expression. Her hair is beautifully shaped. These kokeshi are very rare finds an this one comes with her original box!
Kano Chiyomatsu was born in 1935 and started making kokeshi in 1953. He won the prestigious Prime Minister award twice among many more awards making him one of the most decorated and prized kokeshi master in Japan. His date of passing us unknown.
