This kokeshi is a very rare piece by Katase Kahei and is titled ' A Field full of Flowers'. The traditional wavy hairstyle of this doll is a distinctive feature often used by Katase-San. This hairstyle was popular during the 18th century in Japan and was influenced by the Dutch who had a trading post in Japan during that time. It is fascinating to see how few lines Katase needs to make a kokeshi special. She wears a colorful textured kimono.
