This is a rare and large kokeshi by the famous awardwinning Sanpei Yamanaka. This doll wears its warm winter coat. The wood grain is just spectacular including the two different wood colors. This is a nice opportunity to buy a rare piece by Sanpei.
Yamanaka-San was born in Yamagata and made creative kokeshi troughout his entire career. His kokeshi are really sought by collectors all over the world. He won the prestigious 'Prime Minister Award' in 1979.
