This is a special version of Sansaku Sekiguchi's moon princess. This doll is a rendition of princess Kaguya. She is the main character in the oldest Japanese folktale 'The tale of the bamboo cutter'. This princess who originally came from the moon was found by a bamboo cutter inside a glowing bamboo shoot. She is in excellent condition and comes with her original box.
Sansaku Sekiguchi was born in 1925 and he is the only certified Master of Creative Kokeshi by the Japanese Government. He even has his own museum in Gunma. He won numerous awards including three times the prestigious Prime Minister Award!!! His kokeshi are arguably amongst the most popular, and sought by collectors all over the world making them highly expensive. Sekiguchi-San passed away in 2018. His sons, Toa, Toshio and his daughter Izumi now also make kokeshi quite successfully winning many prices at contests.
