This sosaku kokeshi has such elegance with her big bow on her back. She has a very recognizable face and a slim design that is similar to Osono The Dancer, Shozan's best known kokeshi. This lady can really brighten up your house!

Please look at the pictures carefully to assess the condition of the item. This kokeshi has some stains in her face due to aging. The kokeshi has some glue fragments in the base of her foot.

 

Short Bio of Shido Shozan (1932 - 1995)

Shido Shozan was born in Oita prefecture in 1932. Originally, he was a traditional Yamagata artisan and attended the Chuo University in Tokyo. He later moved to Yonezawa which greatly influenced some of his designs to depict Yonezawa motifs. His later work also often uses the natural wood grain to bring out delicate and beautiful designs. Shido won numerous awards including the prestigious Prime Minister Award. His kokeshi are arguably amongst the most popular, and sought by collectors all over the world making them highly expensive. Shido-San passed away in 1995.
