This is a spectacular kokeshi by Kato Tatsuo. She is beautifully shaped and has very elegant hair. The abstractness of the waves that decorated her kimono gives it a very modern look.
Kato Tatsuo started making kokeshi in the 1960s and studied under master Sansaku Sekiguchi. He is very popular and a major award winning artisan.
