This is an special Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi by Kurasawa Toshie with a beautiful floral display.
Toshie Kurasawa (1935–2011) was a renowned Japanese sōsaku kokeshi (creative kokeshi) artist known for blending painterly finesse with traditional doll-making. Originally trained as an oil painter, Kurasawa brought a refined artistic sensibility to her wooden dolls, turning each piece into a small, expressive work of art. Her signature motifs included intricate hair ornaments (mizuhiki), delicate floral patterns, and natural landscapes—reflecting her deep connection to the rural beauty of her native Nagano. Embracing the freedom of the sōsaku movement, she moved beyond the constraints of regional kokeshi traditions, earning numerous awards throughout the 1980s and ’90s, including the prestigious Minister of Education Award in 1994. Kurasawa’s work is celebrated for its meticulous detail, subtle elegance, and fusion of folk craft with fine art, securing her place as a major figure in the evolution of modern kokeshi.
