This is a spectacular and powerful design by Yuji Watanabe. What a special kokeshi this is. It is only the second time that we have found her and the first one went straight to a collector of us. This kokeshi is decorated with a kind of carved flame design on her body and her hair is also carved. What an intriguing doll.
Yuji is part of a well known kokeshi artisan family. He is the son of the famous Masao Watanabe and the father of Kunihiko Watanabe. His kokeshi are arguably amongst the most popular and sought by collectors all over the world making them highly expensive.
