Toyokuni III is considered the most popular, prolific and commercially successful designer of Japanese woodblock prints in the 19th-century. He studies under Toyokuni, head of the Utagawa school. He focussed on traditional subjects such as kabuki, bijin (beautiful women), shunga (erotic prints), and historical prints. He was 70 years old when he passed away in 1864.
