This is a rare Kijiyama Kokeshi by Hisamune Takahashi. This type of kokeshi is very popular in Japan and it is great that we finally found one for our shop. They are made from dark wood with very bright colors for the flowers and hair decorations.
This kokeshi is made in a style created by Giichiro Ito (1882-1933) who was the best in Japan during his time and his kokeshi were highly collected. When Giichiro passed collectors asked his brother-in-law Tsuneji Ito (1906-1982) to make kokeshi that imitate Giichiro's style. Tsuneji Ito is the master of Hisamune Takahashi who carries on the same style of kokeshi.
