This is a lovely doll by the famous award winning Sanpei Yamanaka. It has a powerful look which combines well with the dark wood. This kokeshi is normally part of a set of two kokeshi.
Yamanaka-San was born in Yamagata and made creative kokeshi throughout his entire career. His kokeshi are really sought by collectors all over the world. He won the prestigious 'Prime Minister Award' in 1979.
