This is a well known design by Onodera Koraku. This is a lovely Vintage Kijiyama Kokeshi with the signature on the back of the doll. The plum tree is just lovely drawn with the bright white blossoms. The flower in the hair of the doll is a nice feature. The Japanese plum (ume) is a popular flower in Japan and plays an important role in their culture. It is one of the first blossoms to appear each year and they prelude the start of spring. This event is celebrated with the plum festival 'Ume Matsuri'.
